What is "silverthought"?
"silverthought" is a word I made up while writing my second sf novel. It is a combination of the words "silver" and "thought." If you're looking for a deeper meaning, sorry.

Why did you start silverthought.com?
After the success of the online journal site dyingdays.com, I wanted to start another online community for writers and fans of sf. I am a writer and fan of sf.

What is "speculative fiction"?
"Speculative fiction" is just another in a long line of names for the genre that has also been known as "science fiction," "scientist fiction," "scientifiction," "scifi," and "sf." The genre depends upon subjunctivity--it details things that could happen. For a better definition, go here.

How do I submit material?
Read the guidelines on the submit thread of the forum.

How much do you pay?
$1/5000 words redeemable in the ST bookstore on Silverthought Press books. No exceptions. More information on the "write stories, get books" thread. If you're looking to make a buck or two of cash instead of a book or two, consider submitting material to Silverthought Press.

Why would anyone submit a story if they aren't going to get paid real money for it?
Some people simply enjoy writing and enjoy knowing that their writing is reaching an appreciative audience. Silverthought.com provides authors with a venue.

Why don't you accept fantasy/fan fiction/etc.?
I accept submissions of all genres, but that doesn't mean I'll publish just anything. Regardless of genre, if your work isn't good, I'm not interested. I'm interested in work that speculates about what could happen, not if dragons existed or if Data had silicon testicles. So I tend not to publish fantasy or fan fiction. We also don't feature bukkake videos, stock reports, gardening tips, or fondue recipes.

Who are you?
I am Paul Evan Hughes.

What is Silverthought Press?
Silverthought Press is the next step in the evolution of silverthought.com, a small press that features authors from the site and provides quality hardcover books to customers. For more information, click here.

I'd like to discuss silverthought.com/Silverthought Press with you. How do I contact you?
You may email me at editor@silverthought.com or chat at me on AIM: resurrender01 or Yahoo: resurrender. I'll do my best to respond quickly.

What qualifies you to run a site/small press like this?
I have ten years of webmaster experience, six years of publishing experience, I've worked as a professional designer/editor for six years, I've won the Editor's Choice and IPPY awards, I pay my rent with royalty money, and I'm an all-around nice guy. I don't need qualifications--I have ambition.

I thought you were an editor. Why do I sometimes find spelling/grammar mistakes in material on silverthought.com?
I don't have time to proof and re-proof each and every submission to silverthought.com. Sometimes mistakes slip through. Sometimes a lot of mistakes slip through. Sometimes people should use spell check or actually read their submissions before sending them to me. I prefer to present work as is. I try not to let anything horribly wrong get by, but it happens.

What is "night.blind"?
night.blind is the first collaborative fiction project on silverthought.com. For more information, please visit this thread.

Are you ever going to finish the silverthought trilogy?
It's done.

What does the Silverthought Staff do?
Len designs covers, Andy manages the forum, Mark writes most of the reviews and is co-associate editor with Becci, a new position that we're still developing, and I do everything else: receiving, reading, accepting and coding submissions, page design and updates, etc. I also pay the bills. If you don't like something, complain to me.
