Hey John,,  Cool story.  That was a really interesting take on a robot story...a really unique idea.  And I think I recognize that title from somewhere...I could be wrong??  Smiley  --Rob

Great concept John,

As I read, I picked up a few observations below if you have a mind to want them:

The second paragraph was a marathon of thought, "Eventually, it was decided that considering how far gone he was, the risk of aggravating him was worth taking if there were any beneficial effects at all; the boy had to be drawn out of his shell."

Tightening up the first half and swapping out the semi colon for a period should make it flow:
"They decided the beneficial effects outweighted the aggravation, considering how far gone he was. The boy had to be drawn out of his shell."
(This gets rid of one of the "was" twins as well.)

The second sentence continues this theme, "If he refused to be human, which he had adamantly done for years, any momentary piercing of his cold exterior of imaginary alloys would be a success."

It could be lightened with something like:
"He adamantly refused to be human for years; any momentary piercing of his imaginary, cold exterior alloys would be a success."

Was paedophile a typo? "pedophile"

The rest of the story held my attention and thoroughly entertained me with a view I had never seen before.

Thanks, this is a short but powerful read.

I very unique idea.  I hope it's a sample from something longer.  Your protagonist's psychology and circumstances would be interesting to explore in greater detail.

Is RDG acting on his own prejudices?  I'd be interested to hear the author's take on that.

Denial and/or auto-isolation are interesting concepts to play with and you engaged me with the aetiology of his condition but even more so with his response. Definitely worth exploring further, though with care and sensitivity.

Have you seen 'A Clean Escape' which was part of the Bravo Masters of science fiction series?
